What kind of options do I have?

The Surgical Technique
Male and Female patterned baldness is genetic.  It will always affect the top, front and crown areas of the head.  Because the hair on the back and sides of the head are not susceptible to patterned baldness, it is the area that is always used as the donor area.   When an individual’s graft from that area is used to replace a bald or thinning area, the hair that is transplanted will grow for the rest of the patient's life.

Scalp Alopecia Reduction (SAR)
Scalp alopecia reduction (SAR) can be a major companion to hair replacement surgery for many men – especially those that require coverage for a large bald area, have a limited amount of donor areas, or have the typical crown (vertex) thinning or loss pattern.  The areas of baldness can be reduced through SAR, to allow fewer grafts or none at all.  This procedure involves removing excess skin from the top of the head under a local anesthetic, then closing and suturing the bald spot.  The procedure can be completed in 30-45 minutes.  The patient is then shampooed (no bandages are required), and in most cases, is able to immediately return to work.

Corrective Surgery
Micrograft surgery can often be used to correct areas that were previously treated with an older or less natural looking hair replacement technique.

Am I a candidate for hair restoration?

You may very well be.  Through our cutting edge techniques, we are able to assess your hair loss situation through a combination of the Norwood Chart combined with a simple questionnaire, about any hair loss history in your family, and a series of photos that are easy for you to take in the privacy of your own well-lit bathroom.  All that is then needed will be for you to email them to our highly qualified medical staff of hair replacement experts.  In some cases however, the only accurate evaluation of your candidacy is a thorough consultation, which our customer support team would be more than happy to arrange.

Are there any restrictions for me prior to coming for the procedure?

Yes, there are some minimal preoperative instructions that we will go over in detail with you at the time of your booking.  You will also be required to take a pre-surgical blood test.

What information is covered during a consultation?

Our online or over the phone consultations are easy, quick and simple.  Our support staff will walk you through each phase of what you can expect from a hair replacement procedure.  We will explain different treatment options for your specific type of hair loss and the costs that are associated with them.  This service is of course, FREE.

How many hair follicles are typical for a hair replacement session?

There are many factors that determine the number of grafts transplanted in one surgical session.  During the FREE evaluation and preoperative planning, many of these questions will be answered.  Consideration is given to both the degree of your hair loss and the density of the hair in your donor area.  Additional consideration is given to the amount of surgical area that can be covered with your existing hair.  Typically 200 up to 2,000 grafts can be transplanted in one session.  Exceeding the 2,000 graft mark can reduce the success of follicle survival as grafts may be placed in too close of a proximity to one another, subsequently not allowing enough blood flow of healthy nutrients to aid in proper healing.

What can I expect during the procedure?

You can expect a natural looking head of hair.  Our skillful surgeons place various types of grafts (1 follicle graft, two follicle, three follicle etc.) to re-create a permanent head of hair with a natural look and hairline.  It is the selection, size and placement of these various grafts that creates the natural look.  Our surgeons are precise in the proper angle of the grafts allowing the transplanted hair to grow in the same pattern as the existing hair.  This process is called Angulation.

The procedures used include: Micrografts 1 or 2 hairs are used specifically for the hairline area creating a soft, feathered appearance.  Minigrafts are used for the majority of the transplant area to create density and fullness using 3 to 6 hairs.  Lasergrafts or mini micrografts are sometimes required and are placed in an incision made by a surgical laser.  Multigraft Sessions of 200 up to 2,000 different size grafts in one session are used to allow the hair transplantation to be completed in a much shorter time.
Our new approach of superior multigraft sessions combines the best of the above procedures.  By using a combination of minigrafts for hair density and micrografts for a natural look, we are able to achieve a smoother, blended result in considerably less time compared with a more conventional procedure, eliminating the "doll hair" effect typically associated with some hair transplants.

A complimentary evaluation helps us determine the procedures that are best suited for your specific hair loss situation.

How long will the surgery take?

The average hair transplant session will take roughly 2 1/2 to 3 hours.  This is subject to the number of grafts that our surgeon has planned for your procedure.

Is the procedure painful?

Hair replacement surgery has come a long way since it’s beginnings.  Today, surgeries are very comfortable with the use of a local anesthetic.  While the procedure is being done, you will have the option to listen to music, watch a movie, or bring in your favorite reading material.  Simple Tylenol typically eliminates any postoperative discomfort.

Do I need to come back in for follow-up care?

All postoperative care procedures are explained very thoroughly by our surgeon and staff.  Each patient receives a postoperative care kit that provides medications, shampoos, conditioners and specially formulated oils, designed to assist in the healing process as well as in the future growth of hair follicles.

Our surgeon and staff will give you instructions for your follow up office visit, which is typically within 1-week of your procedure.  Any additional visit will be discussed at that time.

All surgical patients are provided with an emergency 24-hour phone number to an on-call New U Hair physician to answer any questions or concerns regarding postoperative care.

Will the transplant look like my natural hair?

Yes it will. With the advancements in hair replacement procedures utilizing multigraft sessions, a natural appearance is achieved in a much shorter time, and with fewer sessions than ever before.

Many patients begin the hair restoration process prior to the severe loss of any of their hair.  By doing so, their restoration can be virtually undetectable.

Are hair transplants permanent?

Yes they are.  The process redistributes the hair on the back and sides of the head that is genetically unable to be affected by DHT, rendering the process permanent.

How long before I will notice my transplanted hair regrowing?

Typically a dormant period of up to twelve weeks may be expected for new hair growth. This however, is not true for every case as the patient's physical condition can affect the pace at which a patient's hair will grow.

What is the cost associated with the procedure cost?

Your Expectations and Goals
All of your expectations will be discussed during your consultation, and we will approach your situation with your results at the forefront.

Your Time and Commitment
We can accommodate you.  You may wish to schedule a series of appointments in order to distribute the cost over time.  Conversely, you may want to have the fewest number of procedures possible.  Considering the fact that hair replacement surgery is still one of the most affordable cosmetic procedures available today, this too is an affordable option.

Your Degree of Hair Loss

Our staff of experts determines the specific degree of your hair loss, and the options for replacement are then discussed with you to determine the best solution.  The less hair loss you have, the more affordable the procedure will be.
